Malami spends second night in EFCC custody

Former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami is spending a second night in the custody of the EFCC over 18 alleged offences, including money laundering, abuse of office and terrorism financing.

Sources said Malami is being questioned over the recovery of $346.2 million Abacha loot from Switzerland and the Island of Jersey, N4 billion Anchor Borrowers’ Programme disbursements, and alleged investments worth N10 billion in businesses in Kebbi State.

Investigators are reportedly examining 46 bank accounts linked to the former AGF, while the anti-graft agency is said to have secured a remand order after he failed to meet bail conditions by Tuesday night.

An associate said Malami was invited on Monday but arrived late and was detained overnight for continued questioning. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined comment when contacted.
