Stampede leaves one dead at Asake concert in Nairobi

A woman has reportedly died following a stampede at Nigerian singer Asake’s concert in Nairobi, Kenya, after overcrowding triggered a crush at the venue. The woman, believed to be in her twenties, collapsed during the incident and was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her body was later transferred to the City Mortuary.

Social media users identified the deceased as Karen Lojore, with images circulating of a woman said to be her mother demanding justice. Witnesses questioned the organisers’ crowd management, citing narrow entry points, prolonged delays and the absence of structured barriers at the venue, which was organised by Tukutane Entertainment.

In a statement on Instagram, Tukutane Entertainment confirmed a “tragic incident” occurred during the December 20 concert and said it was cooperating with authorities. Asake said he was “devastated” by the loss and offered condolences, adding that “those responsible should be held accountable,” as investigations continue.
