An elderly Islamic cleric, Ladan Zubairu, was killed on Monday morning at Yusuf Garko Mosque in Maraba Quarters, Kano, while calling Muslims to prayer. The assailant was later chased by residents, lynched, and his house set ablaze before security forces restored calm.
The victim’s son, Isa Kasim, said his father had completed the first call to prayer and was seated when the attacker struck. “He had just finished the first call and was seated when someone entered the mosque with a weapon, grabbed him and slaughtered him. In short, his throat was slit,” Kasim said.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police said officers intervened to prevent further violence. The bodies were taken to Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital for autopsy, while the Commissioner of Police ordered a full investigation.
