Kaduna budget: Why N100 million was allocated to each ward – Commissioner

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has earmarked N100 million for each of the state’s 255 wards in the 2026 budget, marking a first in the state’s history. The Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Hon. Mukhtar Ahmed Morovia, said the move aligns with the governor’s grassroots development agenda during a post-budget briefing after the Appropriation Bill was signed into law.

Morovia said the N985.9 billion budget allocates 70.9 per cent, or N698.9 billion, to capital expenditure, while recurrent spending stands at N287 billion. He noted that the ward-based funds would be transparently disbursed, with communities determining priorities through Ward Development Committees, focusing on health, education, agriculture and social sectors.

Explaining sectoral priorities, Education Commissioner Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo said the sector received 25 per cent of the budget in line with UNESCO guidance. “The basis for giving the Education sector about ¼ of the budget is because, His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani places priority on education,” he said, adding it supports attainment of Sustainable Development Goals.
