Joshua accident: Son defends driver, says father not reckless

Ifeoluwa Adeniyi, the 19-year-old son of Adeniyi Kayode, has said his father has never been charged with reckless driving, despite being arraigned for manslaughter by the Ogun State Police Command. Speaking with The Guardian, Ifeoluwa said his father was remanded at the Sagamu Correctional Centre to perfect bail conditions after bail was set at N5 million. He described the family as distraught but insisted that his father was a careful driver who had always adhered to traffic rules.

Adeniyi Kayode was the driver of the vehicle conveying heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and two others, who died after the vehicle collided with a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Ifeoluwa said the accident occurred after the vehicle’s brakes failed, adding that his father attempted to avoid the truck but was unsuccessful. He noted that his father had driven Joshua for three years without incident. Meanwhile, the driver’s counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, described the crash as an unfortunate accident and maintained that his client was not reckless.

  1. This is indeed a good news to hear that at Anthony Joshua accident in ogun state Nigeria, that nigeria’s driving codes and rules are beginning to be applied! What a good news! “all animals”, George Orwell indeed say, “are equal but some are more equal than the other”.
