Iran admits false report on downed Israeli F-35 jets

Iran’s state broadcaster has admitted that it wrongly reported the downing of two Israeli F-35 fighter jets during the June conflict, saying the claim came from an unreliable military source. Peyman Jabali, head of the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation, said the organisation “made a professional error,” adding, “We reported what we received as it was, but then it turned out that the information was not correct.”

Jabali said the incident harmed the broadcaster’s credibility and warned media outlets against publishing unverified information, noting the risks of relying on unofficial sources. The 12-day confrontation saw Israel launch “Operation Rising Lion,” Iran respond with missile strikes, and the United States join the conflict with B-2 bomber raids before a ceasefire was announced on 24 June.
