Nigerian blogger Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu, popularly known as Ijele Speaks, has alleged that he was once approached with an offer to assassinate activist Omoyele Sowore, a claim he says he rejected before verifying the threat with the Defence Intelligence Agency.
Nigerian blogger and social commentator Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu, famously known as Ijele Speaks, has made a startling allegation that he was once approached to assassinate human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore. Speaking during a podcast appearance on “The King Of The Game,” Ijele revealed that despite their current fallout, he once protected the SaharaReporters founder from a lethal conspiracy. “Let me say it here. I hope the people he surrounds himself with will reject the type of offer I rejected to assassinate him. I will tell you this for free. Yes, somebody made that offer to me. When we are off air, I will tell you who,” he said. The blogger claimed he went as far as contacting a contact within the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to verify the plot, only to be told that Sowore was not considered a serious enough threat to warrant such extreme measures.
The commentator detailed a history of clandestine support for Sowore, claiming he lobbied for the activist’s release from detention without his knowledge and consistently advocated for him during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Ijele noted that even while he was a “staunch Buhari supporter,” he remained a vocal proponent for Sowore’s freedom, citing his old YouTube programs as evidence. “I lobbied without telling him. I think I’ve mentioned this to Deji Adeyanju before,” he said, adding that his advice to the authorities at the time was to resolve Sowore’s legal issues swiftly to avoid political fallout during the 2023 elections. “I even told him, this case you people have with him, make sure it doesn’t get to the 2023 election because that’s when you will see the impact of his incarceration. It’s not proper,” he added.
However, the relationship reportedly soured due to ideological clashes regarding the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. Ijele accused Sowore of aligning with elements he deemed compromised, which triggered their public rift. “What brought my rift with him was this Nnamdi Kanu issue. You are saying you fought for me against the criminal pastors, but you went and joined those that the criminal pastors used,” he stated. The interview concluded with further allegations regarding political interference in the South-East, where Ijele claimed a serving senator was pressured to take an oath of silence regarding IPOB matters in exchange for political favors. As of Thursday, April 9, 2026, neither Omoyele Sowore nor the Defence Intelligence Agency has issued a formal response to these explosive claims.
