Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has launched a sharp critique against Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, labeling him a “character-in-chief” engaged in political theatrics. In an interview on The Clarity Zone Podcast, Bwala dismissed Obi’s campaign as selling a “fictitious picture of a reality that will never exist,” adding that Obi’s supporters “ran berserk” after the election loss due to shattered fantasies. The remarks escalate ongoing political tensions stemming from the 2023 election cycle.
Further escalating his criticism, Bwala directly challenged Obi’s previous suggestion that he had never visited Anambra State, claiming detailed knowledge of the former governor’s hometown and even referencing an anecdote involving a mentally unstable adviser. “I can tell you the road that leads to his house,” Bwala stated, adding, “I even know the junction where the madman that used to advise him used to stay, very close to Upper Iweka.” The exchange references a past story by Obi about receiving security advice from a mentally unstable man during his tenure as Anambra governor.
