Credible police sources have revealed a high-powered team from the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was assembled with the alleged objective of eliminating activist Omoyele Sowore. Officers who regard Sowore as a persistent threat over his exposure of police corruption have discussed scenarios to stage his death. “They would stage a confrontation, arrange for his arrest, and kill him in the process,” sources told SaharaReporters.
One alleged plan involved arresting Sowore on cybercrime allegations and orchestrating a fatal road accident during transport to a northern state. “They will effect an arrest under the pretext that they are acting on a petition,” a source said. A second option was to attack him at a checkpoint and claim he resisted orders, sources disclosed.
The reported plot follows growing hostility from the IGP, angered by Sowore’s claims that his appointment is illegal and by reports on alleged favoritism. Repeated attempts to obtain an official response from the Nigeria Police Force were unsuccessful. Sowore has faced multiple arrests and legal battles under the current police leadership.
