FIFA has approved Arthur Okonkwo’s switch from England to Nigeria, making the Wrexham goalkeeper eligible for Super Eagles selection.
FIFA has approved the request of UK-born goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo to switch his international allegiance from England to Nigeria. The decision, confirmed on the FIFA Change of Association platform, makes the Wrexham shot-stopper eligible to represent the Super Eagles in upcoming matches.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, the 24-year-old previously represented England at youth levels but had not been capped at senior level. Okonkwo, who currently plays for Wrexham AFC, has made 42 appearances this season, recording 11 clean sheets after joining the club permanently in 2024 following spells at Arsenal FC academy and loan moves.
He joins Nigeria’s goalkeeping pool alongside Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, and Francis Uzoho. Nigeria is scheduled to face Portugal and Poland in friendly matches ahead of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
