A man, his wife and their child died in a multiple-vehicle accident at Secretariat, inward Otedola Bridge on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday. LASTMA said two others sustained serious injuries after a speeding fully loaded truck rammed into a vehicle, causing it to crash into two others—a Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla and an Audi. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene with the vehicle.
Emergency responders rescued the injured victims trapped in the wreckage and evacuated them to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre, while SEHMU officials recovered the bodies. LASTMA said officers from Isheri Olowora Police Division secured the area and removed the crashed vehicles. “Excessive speed remains a major cause of fatal road crashes,” LASTMA’s spokesman, Adebayo Taofiq, quoted GM Olalekan Bakare-Oki as saying.
