‘Extremely dangerous’: Sowore criticizes U.S. airstrikes in Northwest Nigeria

Former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised the United States airstrike on suspected ISIS fighters in northwest Nigeria, warning that the move threatens Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Reacting to the incident, he said, “Nobody should be rejoicing about this. This is imperialist move on the part of Trump.” Sowore argued that foreign military action inside Nigeria poses significant risks to regional stability.

Sowore stressed that while international assistance is possible, direct strikes by foreign forces are unacceptable. According to him, “US could help Nigerian military but U.S. military carrying out attack inside Nigeria is extremely dangerous, reckless and bad.”

He described the development as “a sad day for the so-called African liberation and Independence.”

His comments followed confirmation by U.S. President Donald Trump that American forces launched the strike. Trump said, “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria.”

AFRICOM later confirmed the operation, stating it was conducted “at the request of Nigerian authorities,” while residents in Sokoto reported a frightening explosion that caused panic but no casualties.
