Enugu stands still as NLC protests insecurity

Enugu came to a standstill on Wednesday as the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) began a planned protest against the high level of insecurity in the country. The NLC chairman for the state, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo, led the demonstration, calling on the government to enhance the protection of lives and property of citizens.

The protest follows a national announcement by the NLC that it would launch a nationwide action on the issue. National NLC President Joe Ajaero, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, and others had earlier convened at the Congress’s headquarters in preparation for the demonstrations.

The NLC’s action underscores growing public frustration with security challenges across Nigeria. The labour union has mobilized its members to demand more effective measures from authorities to address the persistent threats to safety.
