“Enough of excuses, take action or step aside” — Sen. Natasha challenges Defence Minister Musa over killings

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has demanded urgent action from the defence leadership after a deadly attack in Jos, as Governor Caleb Mutfwang promises justice for the victims.

VIA SAHARA REPORTERS:

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called for immediate and decisive action from the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, following the killing of Christian worshippers in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The attack, which occurred on March 27, left more than 30 people dead, sparking nationwide outrage and renewing concerns over Nigeria’s deepening insecurity crisis.

In a statement posted on her official social media handle, the Kogi Central lawmaker condemned the killings, describing them as further evidence of the government’s failure to safeguard citizens.

“Angwan Rukuba is another brutal reminder that Nigerians remain unprotected,” she wrote, directly addressing the Defence Minister.

Akpoti-Uduaghan recalled Musa’s assurances during his Senate screening, noting that his promises had initially raised hopes among Nigerians yearning for improved security.

“During your screening at the Senate chambers, your words were filled with promises, and I allowed myself a sigh of relief — at last, I thought,” she said.

However, she accused the defence leadership of failing to translate rhetoric into concrete action, issuing a blunt ultimatum that reflects growing public frustration.

“Well, prove NOW you are different and secure lives, or step aside. Enough of condolences. Enough of excuses. Nigerians want action, protection, and results!” she declared.

The killings in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos, have intensified calls for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly as attacks on vulnerable communities persist.

Residents of the affected community remain in mourning, demanding justice for the victims and urgent measures to prevent further bloodshed.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has vowed that those responsible for the “heinous” attack will be brought to justice.

The governor made the pledge in a post on X on Monday after visiting the community.

“Today, I visited Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area with a heavy heart following the heinous attack on innocent citizens,” he wrote.

“I stood with grieving families, listened to their pain, and shared in their loss. No words can truly capture the depth of sorrow in moments like this, but I want every affected family to know you are not alone. Your pain is my pain, and the pain of Plateau State.”

Mutfwang assured residents that his administration would pursue justice relentlessly.

“I assure you that those responsible for this evil act will not go unpunished. My administration will pursue justice relentlessly until the perpetrators are brought to book,” he said.

He also announced that the state government would cover the medical bills of injured victims and ensure a dignified burial for those killed.

“Furthermore, the Plateau State Government will take full responsibility for the medical treatment of all those currently receiving care as a result of this attack,” he added.

The governor emphasised that security remains a collective responsibility, urging traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to work with the government to restore peace.

“Security is a shared responsibility, and together, we must rise above division and confront this challenge with unity and resolve,” he said.
