The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is expected to charge former Minister of Labour and Productivity and ex-Anambra governor, Chris Ngige, to court today. Ngige was arrested on Wednesday at his Asokoro residence by EFCC officers from the agency’s Wuse II Zonal office. A family member described the operation as a “commando style raid,” alleging that Ngige was taken away without being allowed to change out of his “pyjamas.”
Ngige had been on “an administrative bail” after earlier questioning by the EFCC and had reportedly been cooperating with the agency. He recently returned from a failed medical trip after losing his passport in transit and drafted a letter notifying the EFCC of the loss. He was arrested before submitting the letter and is expected to be charged in court, where his lawyers will present arguments and seek bail.
