Police in Anambra State have arrested a self-acclaimed evangelist for allegedly impregnating and abusing a 16-year-old girl brought to him for spiritual healing.
A self-acclaimed evangelist and General Overseer of a Pentecostal church, identified as Ezani, has been arrested by security operatives in Nnewi, Anambra State, for allegedly impregnating a 16-year-old girl who was brought to him for prayers and healing. The victim, identified as Precious, was reportedly taken to the suspect’s residence in Amichi community, Nnewi South Local Government Area, by her aunt for spiritual deliverance. The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), a state security outfit, and is currently in police custody after reportedly admitting to the crime in a viral video.
The spokesperson of the security outfit, Karen James, said the case was reported by a security personnel from Igboukwu community after the victim’s aunt discovered she was pregnant. She stated that upon interrogation, the victim identified the evangelist as responsible. The suspect allegedly confessed to administering a mixture of bitter leaf and other herbs to terminate the pregnancy and pleaded with authorities to temper justice with mercy, promising to cover the victim’s medical expenses if released.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim said the abuse began shortly after she arrived at the suspect’s residence in November 2025, alleging repeated sexual assault and threats to her life.
