Samson Adamu has been appointed acting general secretary of CAF, marking a major leadership milestone for Nigeria in African football administration.
Samson Adamu has been appointed acting general secretary of the Confederation of African Football, following a decision announced by CAF president Patrice Motsepe in Cairo. The appointment was confirmed after a meeting of the continental football body’s executive committee.
Adamu replaces Veron Mosengo-Omba, who is retiring after serving since March 2021. Mosengo-Omba had faced criticism over remaining in office beyond the organisation’s retirement age, though an internal investigation cleared him of misconduct allegations.
Before his appointment, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Competitions, overseeing major tournaments including the Africa Cup of Nations and club competitions. His elevation marks a significant milestone, making him the first Nigerian to hold the position in decades.
