The ADC says it is working towards adopting a consensus method to choose its 2027 presidential candidate while criticising the APC’s long-term stability.
African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it is considering a consensus approach to select its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this during a television interview, noting that direct primaries and consensus remain options, while indirect primaries have been ruled out under the amended Electoral Act.
Abdullahi said the party prefers consensus as it is less costly and could help unify stakeholders ahead of the polls. He added that ADC is working to “engineer consensus” as its best-case scenario, amid growing interest from key political figures positioning for the presidency.
He also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that its strength is tied to Bola Tinubu and could weaken after his tenure. Abdullahi further claimed the party is unsettled despite its dominance, insisting it may struggle to win in a free and fair election.
