Babcock University introduces new dress code, bans beards, baggy trousers

The management of Babcock University has announced new grooming and dress code guidelines ahead of its forthcoming examinations, cancelling all previously issued hair-pass permits. In a statement signed by the Vice President for Student Development, Olanivi Arije, the university declared that hair-pass tags, which were issued as waivers for certain hairstyles, are illegal and no longer recognised, stressing that their use or circulation is henceforth outlawed across all Babcock campuses with immediate effect.

The statement noted that the new regulations will take effect from the beginning of the second semester in January and will be strictly enforced. Students found using or presenting hair-pass documents will be investigated and sanctioned in line with university regulations. Under the guidelines, male students are barred from keeping voluminous or unkempt hair, beards and dreadlocks, while female students are prohibited from wearing extreme or indecent hairstyles. The university also listed body-hugging outfits, sleeveless blouses or dresses, sagging trousers, and baggy, boot-cut or over-length trousers as unacceptable attire.
