The Ogun State Government has authorised the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to resume the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland. The process had been halted two weeks ago after procedural lapses were identified that could trigger litigation. Vice Chairman of the ruling house, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, confirmed the development, explaining that the government gave clearance following approval from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
In a letter dated January 6, the Ijebu Ode Local Government conveyed the government’s approval for the ruling house to begin the nomination process in accordance with customary laws. The letter instructed the ruling house to notify the local government of the date, time, and venue of the nomination meeting, with local government representatives attending strictly as observers to ensure due process.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has fixed Monday, January 12, for the nomination meeting at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode. The selection process has drawn significant attention, with over 60 contestants reportedly interested. Popular Fuji musician KWAM1 expressed interest but was ruled ineligible as he is not a member of the ruling house. The Ogun State High Court declined his injunction request, which he later withdrew.
