Awujale stool: KWAM1 petitions Abiodun, alleges exclusion from selection process

Popular Fuji musician and Olori Omooba of Ijebu land, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1, has written to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, alleging that he is being excluded from the ongoing selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebu land. In a letter dated January 8, 2026, written by his lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, Ayinde accused the Fusengbuwa ruling house next in line to produce the Awujale of issuing directives that contravene the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State, with the aim of disenfranchising him and other eligible contenders. The selection process, which has reportedly attracted over 60 contestants, follows the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona in July 2025 after a 65-year reign.

Ayinde expressed concern over a directive scheduling nomination and screening exercises through delegates, describing it as inconsistent with existing laws. The letter stated, “It is clear that there are plans by the leadership of the ruling house to disenfranchise members desirous of participating in the nomination of candidates for the Awujale stool,” adding that “a group of people in the ruling house cannot usurp these rights.” However, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed the claims as baseless, describing the petition as “arrant nonsense” and insisting that screening was necessary due to the large number of family members. Efforts to get a response from the Ogun State Government were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
