WATCH: Teenager linked to Borno mosque bombing arrested while planning new attack

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected suicide bomber and recovered materials for the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Bama Local Government Area, Borno State.

The suspect, identified as Abubakar Mustapha, was apprehended on Monday, December 29, by the 152 Task Force Battalion in collaboration with other security agencies.

Confirming the arrest, Lt Col Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai, said, “During the operation, the suspect was apprehended at the Banki Central Mosque with primed IED components in his possession, indicating a potential imminent attack.”

Lt Col Uba added that preliminary investigations revealed that Mustapha hails from Bama LGA and possessed additional materials associated with terrorist activities. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is from Bama Local Government Area and had additional materials associated with terrorist activities,” he said.

The suspect is currently undergoing intensive interrogation to uncover possible sponsors, collaborators, and links to terrorist networks.

Uba reassured residents that troops remain on high alert, maintaining aggressive patrols and intelligence-led operations to protect civilians and critical infrastructure, and urged the public to provide credible information to support counter-terrorism efforts.
