Atiku Abubakar has signed a $1.2 million deal with a U.S. lobbying firm to strengthen his reputation and engagement with American policymakers ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has hired a U.S.-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., in a $1.2 million deal aimed at strengthening his reputation and influence in Washington. The agreement, filed with the U.S. Department of Justice, outlines efforts to improve perceptions of Atiku among policymakers and counter narratives from the Nigerian government.
Under the contract, the firm will facilitate meetings with U.S. officials, including members of Congress, while offering strategic advice on policy positioning and public relations. It will also develop messaging materials to promote Atiku’s leadership profile and perspectives on governance, economic development, and Nigeria-U.S. relations.
The move comes as Atiku positions himself ahead of the 2027 elections amid internal crises within the African Democratic Congress. The firm has also raised concerns about recent decisions by Independent National Electoral Commission regarding the party’s leadership, calling for credible and transparent electoral processes.
