The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has said that all financial entitlements of the Super Eagles players and officials at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have been resolved, with payments already underway.
Dikko’s assurance followed reports that players had threatened to boycott training and travel to Marrakech for Saturday’s match against Algeria over unpaid bonuses.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he said President Bola Tinubu approved the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 budget as far back as November 14, 2025. “The president approved the entire AFCON budget on Nov. 14, 2025. From our end, the funding has been fully cleared,” Dikko said, while noting that approval and processing were separate stages.
Dikko explained that meetings had been held with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the team captain, co-captain and senior players, where tournament bonuses were discussed and agreed upon before the competition began. “We sat down, negotiated and agreed on what the players are entitled to up to the final. Everybody is clear,” he said, adding that daily allowances requested in cash had already been settled.
He further assured that match bonuses had been approved and were being processed, stressing that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria were handling disbursements. “The bonuses have been approved. The process is ongoing and the money will come,” Dikko said.
NAN reports that the Super Eagles have won all their matches so far and are expected to travel from Fès to Marrakech on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final clash against Algeria.
