Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has defended his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party, saying the move was to protect his personal safety and ensure continuity of governance in the state.
Speaking on Channels Television, Adeleke said he still “loves PDP” but had to act in the interest of stability after securing Accord’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2026 election.
Adeleke dismissed concerns that joining a smaller party could jeopardise his re-election chances, insisting his performance would determine the outcome.
He said Osun residents “know the difference between good governance and bad governance,” adding that he won the 2022 election while in the opposition and expects to repeat the feat. “The people will decide,” he said, expressing confidence that his track record would return him to office.
