Court directs divorcee to wait three months before remarrying

A Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court has finalized the divorce between Hauwa Usman and Habib Adamu, ordering her to observe a three-month Islamic waiting period before remarrying.

Nasarawa Court Grants Divorce, Orders Waiting Period

The Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa, has confirmed a single talaq divorce pronouncement for Hauwa Usman, according to the Peoples Gazette. Her husband, Habib Adamu, had pronounced the talaq by mutual agreement after reconciliation efforts failed, presiding judge Mohammed Shomo said.

The divorce was granted with custody arrangements settled “without prejudice,” the judge noted. Usman had filed the petition citing neglect, seeking custody of their child she said she’d cared for over five years — an allegation Adamu admitted to. Shomo ordered Usman to observe the three-month Iddah waiting period under Islamic law before entering a new relationship, after earlier giving the couple two weeks to reconcile.
