China has criticized the European Commission’s €550 million fine against AliExpress, accusing Brussels of unfairly targeting Chinese e-commerce firms.
China Slams EU Over AliExpress Fine
China’s Ministry of Commerce voiced strong dissatisfaction on Wednesday after the European Commission slapped AliExpress with a €550 million (about $627 million) fine under the EU’s Digital Services Act, according to Peoples Gazette. A ministry spokesperson accused the EU of erecting “digital barriers” disguised as platform regulation, calling the move discriminatory against Chinese e-commerce companies operating in Europe.
Beijing urged the EU to stop what it called abuse of discretionary power through legal ambiguities and to treat Chinese firms fairly. The spokesperson added that China would back its companies in defending their rights through legal channels and take firm steps to protect their interests.
