A suspected reprisal attack in Nasarawa communities left 11 people dead and over 50 houses burnt, prompting police to launch a manhunt and deploy additional security forces.
Eleven people were reportedly killed and more than 50 houses burnt after hoodlums launched a fresh attack on communities in Nasarawa State in the early hours of Friday. The suspected reprisal attack followed the alleged killing of two individuals. Reports indicated that the violence affected Akyawa, where about 50 houses were razed, and Udege Kasa, where two homes were destroyed.
In a statement on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel said the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, visited the affected communities and expressed deep sorrow over the incident, assuring residents that justice would be served. The police chief ordered an intensive manhunt for the attackers and directed security agencies to reinforce deployments to restore peace.
