At least 11 people were killed and dozens of homes destroyed in a violent clash in Nasarawa, with authorities deploying security forces as residents raise suspicions of bandit involvement.
No fewer than 11 persons have been killed and 52 houses destroyed following a violent clash between communities in Nasarawa State. The incident, which affected Akyawa and Udege Kasa, saw about 50 homes burnt in Akyawa and two in Udege Kasa amid rising tensions.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the casualties, with spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel stating that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, visited the affected areas and expressed condolences. Authorities have launched a manhunt for those responsible and deployed additional security personnel to restore order.
While officials described the incident as a communal clash, some residents alleged that bandits were behind the attack, linking it to earlier violence in nearby communities. Police say normalcy has been restored, with measures in place to prevent further escalation.
