Yorubas in the Diaspora under the umbrella of the Yoruba World Congress Worldwide (YWC) have expressed support for the recent security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, describing it as “a step in the right direction.” In a statement jointly signed by YWC Vice President, Engineer Adekunle Ogundana, Secretary General, Engineer Stephen Ajayi, and Mobilisation Director, J.P Ade, the group commended the Nigerian government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening intelligence sharing aimed at protecting citizens. The congress also thanked US President Donald J. Trump for what it termed his “timely intervention” in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
The group raised alarm over rising terror attacks along the Ilorin–Mopa–Kabba road, describing the route as “a death trap on which the terrorists ambush travellers,” while calling for urgent federal government action to rebuild the road and deploy stronger security presence in surrounding communities. The statement highlighted the plight of the Okun people of Kogi State, noting that “many of the towns/villages have since been deserted due to insecurity,” and urged authorities to pursue justice without shielding anyone linked to terrorism. The statement read in part: “YWC express their joy on the recent operation should continue until Nigeria is safe and free from terrorism…” It further demanded that anyone mentioned in terror networks “must be arrested, publicly prosecuted and made to face the full weight of the law to avenge the victims.”
