Woman sparks family tension after calling boyfriend ‘daddy’ in front of his mother

A Reddit user divided opinions after revealing she called her boyfriend “daddy” in front of his mother, sparking a clash that left her boyfriend urging her to apologize.

A 24-year-old woman has turned to Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum after a nickname for her boyfriend caused conflict with his mother.

The woman, who lives with her 28-year-old boyfriend and his parents, said she occasionally calls him “baby,” “boobie” or “handsome,” but during a cooking session recently referred to him as “daddy.” His mother, standing nearby, overheard and was visibly offended.

“She was in disbelief and told me to never call him that again,” the woman wrote, adding she responded by asking how it differed from the mother calling her husband “papi.” She said her boyfriend’s “jaw dropped.”

Two weeks later, her boyfriend is still asking her to apologize.

Responses on Reddit were largely critical. “YTA [you’re the a——],” one top commenter wrote, noting that “daddy” carries sexual connotations. Others stressed that, since she lives in his mother’s house, she should respect her boundaries even if the nickname is harmless in private.
