The Federal Government has withdrawn sanctions against Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, and passenger Comfort Emmason after controversies over separate aviation incidents. KWAM 1, who disrupted a ValueJet flight in Abuja, was reportedly compelled to apologise following interventions from “powers that be.” Emmason, earlier banned for life by Ibom Air and remanded at Kirikiri after an altercation on a Lagos-Uyo flight, also had charges against her dropped.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo confirmed the government’s directive, naming KWAM 1 an ambassador for airport security protocols, a move that drew public criticism. Sources said airlines and regulators sought a compromise to avoid lawsuits, acknowledging procedural lapses in both cases.
Emmason later narrated on Facebook that she was harassed after explaining her phone’s faulty power button, insisting, “I was dragged off the aircraft like a criminal.” A public interest lawyer, Ayodele Ademiluyi, has filed a N500bn suit, alleging double standards and demanding accountability in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
