Shehu Sani: Why Nigerians could face worldwide travel ban

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has warned that if urgent action is not taken, Nigerians could face bans from other countries. He issued the caution on his official X handle following Canada’s deportation of hundreds of Nigerians.

DAILY POST reports that Canada deported at least 366 Nigerians between January and October 2025, marking the fastest pace of immigration enforcement in over a decade. Sani described the deportations as a “wake-up call” for Nigerians living abroad.

He said, “Canada has been a second home to thousands of Nigerians who live, study, or work there. It’s the most liberal country when it comes to immigration and accommodating Nigerians. The recent deportations…are not helpful to our country’s image. We either tackle the few among us, or we may wake up one day banned by the rest of the world.”
