A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he does not own a house or landed property in Abuja because he wants to avoid what he described as unnecessary stress.
Obi made the disclosure during a coffee hangout with KayhikersClub in Abuja, explaining that property ownership and official entitlements often come with avoidable pressure. “I don’t have a house in Abuja, I don’t have a land and I’m not preparing to have because I don’t need it,” he said, adding that peace of mind had contributed to his long record of good health.
Recalling his time as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and later Fidelity Bank, Obi said he declined official vehicles, accommodation allowances and other benefits, insisting that he neither needed nor collected them despite being entitled. “Whatever I’m entitled to, God has given me,” he said, stressing that he was content with what he already had and saw no need to accumulate more assets.
