Who is Christopher Musa, Tinubu’s new defence minister nominee?

President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as Minister of Defence following Mohammed Badaru’s resignation, highlighting Musa’s long-standing military leadership and counter-terrorism experience.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday nominated former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as Defence Minister after the resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru due to health reasons, marking a bid for continuity in the nation’s defence leadership. Musa, born on December 25, 1967, is a seasoned military officer who graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1991 and has served in several high-level roles, including 18th Chief of Defence Staff (2023–2025), Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, and head of Sector 3 under the Multinational Joint Task Force.

His career spans strategic operational roles dating back to his commissioning as Second Lieutenant in 1991, and he is also a recipient of honours such as the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering (2012). His nomination comes at a critical time as the Federal Government seeks stability and experienced leadership in defence operations.
