White House on ‘lockdown’ as two national guard members shot

The White House was placed on lockdown after national guard members were reportedly shot near the Farragut metro station amid ongoing troop deployment tensions.

The White House went into lockdown on Wednesday after reports that national guard members were shot near the Farragut metro station, escalating security concerns in Washington DC. The shooting occurred amid President Donald Trump’s controversial deployment of national guard troops to the capital, a decision criticised by several state governors.

While AP reported that two guard members were shot, another law enforcement source told the New York Times that only one was gunned down. The DC Metropolitan Police confirmed they were at the scene and urged residents to avoid the area. Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said Trump has been briefed, adding, “The White House is aware and actively monitoring this tragic situation.” The circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear at the time of reporting.
