Eyewitnesses said the vehicle carrying the groom and his friends veered off the road and crashed, killing him and two others — Shuaibu Umar and Sulaiman Musa — on the spot.
A joyous wedding day turned tragic in Bauchi State’s Toro Local Government Area on Saturday when groom SP Mustapha Garba Gumau and two friends died in a fatal accident moments before their scheduled 10:00 am ceremony. The senior police officer was traveling from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau for his wedding fatiha when the crash occurred around 9:00 am at Bargan Tsamiya village, abruptly ending the celebrations before they began.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes as rescue teams extracted the victims from the wreckage. “The community is devastated,” a local leader told journalists, noting Gumau’s popularity as a serving officer in the Bauchi Police Command. The deceased’s bodies were transported to Toro General Hospital mortuary amid wailing relatives, with guests arriving for the wedding instead joining a spontaneous vigil.
