Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has addressed concerns over the initial denial of reports that more than 170 people were abducted from Kurmin Wali village in Kajuru Local Government Area. In an interview with BBC Hausa, the governor emphasized that his administration’s priority has been the safe rescue of the kidnapped victims rather than focusing on the numbers or political narratives surrounding the incident. He clarified that the early denial was not intended to downplay the situation, adding that some parties had politicized the figures, which could divert attention from the ongoing rescue efforts.
Governor Sani further stated that the government remains committed to ensuring the safe return of the abducted residents, noting, “In Kaduna State, we do not politicize security matters. Those who try to turn this into a political issue will be ashamed.” He also revealed that he has been in constant consultation with national security authorities, including the President’s security adviser, the Minister of Defence, the Director-General of the SSS, and the Inspector-General of Police, to coordinate efforts aimed at securing the victims’ release.
