‘We already lost Kai, and now Bukayo and Martin’ – Mikel Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed concern after revealing fresh injury worries for Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, adding to the absence of Kai Havertz.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that captain Martin Ødegaard will undergo a scan on Sunday after sustaining a suspected shoulder injury in the club’s 5-0 victory over Leeds United.

The midfielder was forced off during the first half at the Emirates and is now a doubt for next weekend’s crucial Premier League clash against defending champions Liverpool at Anfield.

Bukayo Saka, who scored Arsenal’s second goal just before half-time, also failed to complete the match after pulling up in the early stages of the second half. The England international clutched his left hamstring as he made his way off the pitch, adding to Arteta’s growing injury concerns.

Arsenal had already been without Kai Havertz, Ben White, and summer signing Christian Nørgaard for the game, leaving Arteta facing a mounting selection headache ahead of a pivotal run of fixtures.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports about the injuries to captain Martin Odegaard and forward Bukayo Saka: “Martin looks like a shoulder issue so we will have to scan tomorrow and understand how bad it is. And Bukayo had to come off after sprinting and when he was wrestling with the defender he felt something in his hamstring I think. It is the other side [to the previous injury] but it is still not good.

“I don’t know [how long they will be out]. We already lost Kai [Havertz] which is a big player for us and now Bukayo and Martin. That is why the squad has to be well-equipped. It is going to be a long season and we are going to need a lot of players in order to achieve what we want.”
