Violence mars World Pride parade as two stabbed, one shot in chaotic incident

Two people were stabbed and another shot during World Pride celebrations in Washington DC, prompting police evacuations and emergency response.

Three people were injured during World Pride celebrations in Washington DC on Saturday, after two men were stabbed and another shot near Dupont Circle Park.

The stabbings occurred around 7:30 p.m. during the LGBTQ+ parade, prompting police to evacuate the area. The two unnamed victims were hospitalized. Later that evening, a man was shot nearby on 19th Street NW. Police say he remains conscious, and his injuries are not life-threatening.

The incidents came amid concerns over public safety at the park. Authorities had earlier called for its closure during the weekend parade, erecting an eight-foot-high fence. However, the city government ordered it remain open.

Sydney Willis, a local waitress, told The Washington Post: “People definitely were a little alarmed but then I think it calmed down relatively quickly.”

No arrests have been made. Police have cordoned off both crime scenes and launched investigations.

Despite the violence, thousands attended the parade, with festivities scheduled to conclude Sunday.
