Veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, was filmed blocking a ValueJet aircraft from taking off at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5. The incident began when a flight attendant questioned the contents of a flask the singer was sipping from, suspecting it contained alcohol. Kwam 1 claimed it held doctor-prescribed medication. Tensions escalated, and the musician allegedly spilled the contents on airline staff.
After being deboarded, Kwam 1 approached the runway, standing in front of the aircraft and preventing it from taking off. Viral footage shows him clutching the flask while on a phone call, ignoring requests to move.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) later confirmed he spilled alcohol, prompting the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to suspend two pilots over the incident. In response, Kwam 1 said the flask contained only “plain drinking water,” describing the situation as “not only exaggerated but also misleading,” and claiming he tried to resolve the issue “peacefully.”
