This video of hired thugs attacking women and children protesting peacefully in front of the Kwara State Government House over mass kidnapping and insecurity in their area of the state is one of the most despicable scenes I have ever witnessed at a seat of government. Women protesting rising insecurity and abductions in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, were attacked and flogged by suspected thugs at the Government House in Ilorin during the weekend, according to a report from SaharaReporters. The women had gathered peacefully to demand urgent government action over repeated terrorist attacks and the continued captivity of their husbands and children. Men wielding canes emerged from within the Government House premises and violently dispersed the protesters, beating both young and elderly women as police officers allegedly watched without intervening.
A video obtained captured the assailants chasing and flogging the women as they screamed and fled in panic. In one clip, a distressed woman cried, “Please help us, they have finished us with kidnappings in Oke-Ode… They kidnapped our husbands and our children. Please come to our aid,” while another said, “It is one month now since my husband was kidnapped. Please help us.” Residents accused authorities of failing to curb kidnapping in the area, while the Kwara State Government and the Nigeria Police Force had yet to respond officially as of the time of filing the report.
