‘Francis has left everyone a wonderful testimony of humanity, life of a saint and universal fatherhood’
The late pontiff was buried with a heartfelt tribute celebrating his humility and global impact, while his papal ring was ceremonially destroyed.
Pope Francis was entombed with a touching obituary honoring his legacy as the 266th leader of the Catholic Church, describing him as “a simple and much-loved shepherd” who “travelled far and wide across the city on the underground and the bus, cooking his own meals.” The tribute, placed in his sealed coffin during Friday’s funeral at St. Peter’s Basilica, noted he would “remain in the heart of the Church and of humanity” for his extraordinary humility and connection to everyday people.
In accordance with tradition, the Vatican’s camerlengo destroyed the late Pope’s unique Fisherman’s Ring – crafted by Rome’s goldsmiths – to prevent replication. The ceremony preceded the funeral where world leaders gathered to mourn the 88-year-old pontiff remembered for his “wonderful testimony of humanity” and progressive reforms.
