“My child is to resit the UTME on Saturday, and she has WAEC on Sunday. The two examination bodies have different syllabi”
Parents of candidates affected by the 2025 UTME glitch have called for the resit, scheduled to begin today, to be moved to June, citing emotional distress and clashes with ongoing WASSCE exams.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had announced that affected candidates could reprint their slips for the resit starting May 16. However, parents argue the short notice and logistical challenges, including distant exam centres, make the timeline unreasonable. One parent stated, “Our children are still traumatised; forcing them to retake now is unfair.”
JAMB Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede admitted the error impacted over 300,000 candidates, primarily in Lagos and the South-East, calling it a “disappointing setback.” He apologised but maintained the resit would proceed, urging affected candidates to comply. Critics, however, insist a June postponement would allow proper preparation.
