Untold story of ‘what happened’ during Makinde–Tinubu meeting – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu rebuffed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, during his visit to the Presidential Villa on Thursday. Fayose made the claim in a statement titled “Untold story of what happened in the Villa during Governor Makinde’s visit to the President today,” which he released hours after the meeting, alleging that the Oyo governor was unable to meet the president alone and sought the support of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

According to Fayose, President Tinubu told Makinde that he was only prepared to engage with him on official matters relating to Oyo State and not on political issues. He alleged that the president dismissed any attempt by Makinde to discuss political grievances, including claims that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had influenced his public comments accusing the administration of plotting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

Fayose further claimed that President Tinubu cautioned Makinde against speaking differently in private and in public, warning him not to retract or soften political positions behind closed doors while maintaining a different narrative openly. Fayose’s claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no official response from the Presidency or the Oyo State Government at the time of filing this report.
