The University of Port Harcourt has conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of its 50th anniversary.
The University of Port Harcourt has conferred an honorary Doctor of Science (DSc Honoris Causa) degree on Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Vice-Chancellor Owunari Georgewill presented the conferment letter to Wike in Abuja on Wednesday, stating the official ceremony will hold on July 26 during the university’s 50th anniversary convocation.
“You are a distinguished alumnus… we are proud to be associated with you,” Georgewill said, citing Wike’s contributions to the university and national development.
Registrar Gloria China, in a letter dated June 10, confirmed the Senate’s approval of the award.
Pro-Chancellor Mao Ohuabunwa praised Wike’s past interventions, noting, “The Faculty of Law is in the university because Nyesom Wike was the minister of education.”
Wike, responding, thanked the university, saying, “I will continue to partner and support the university.”
The convocation arena—built during Wike’s tenure as governor—will be commissioned a day before the ceremony, on July 25.
