A shocking incident in the Choba community of Port Harcourt has led to the arrest of Cynthia Chukwundah, a 300‑level student at the University of Port Harcourt, after she allegedly set her lover Sunny Amadi on fire over a pregnancy dispute. The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the arrest following the incident, which reportedly took place on Saturday. Cynthia, eight months pregnant, discovered the partner in her home after he had been absent for over six months .

An eyewitness, Emmanuel, detailed the sequence:

“The guy came to visit her after being away for so long. When Cynthia came back and saw him, she was not pleased. After an argument, she left, returned later while he was sleeping, and then set him on fire.”

The victim sustained fatal burns and died on Sunday. Cynthia also suffered injuries and is being treated in hospital. Police from Choba division are actively investigating. No official statement has been released by the Rivers State Command as inquiries continue.
