UK officials, governors visit Anthony Joshua in Lagos hospital after fatal crash

The Deputy Head of Mission of the British High Commission, Simon Field, has visited Anthony Joshua in a Lagos hospital following Monday’s fatal accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

In a statement by Ogun State Governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, Field met Joshua and held discussions with Governors Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu as British officials continued to monitor the situation.

“The Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Simon Field, visited the hospital and met with Anthony Joshua and the two governors. The families of the deceased have also been contacted through the High Commission,” the statement read.

Governor Abiodun confirmed that he and Sanwo-Olu spent several hours at the hospital overseeing Joshua’s care, while President Bola Tinubu was briefed and spoke with Joshua, his mother, and state officials. “As soon as I was informed, I headed straight to the hospital and was later joined by the Lagos State Governor,” Abiodun said, adding that authorities had ordered a full investigation.

Tinubu, in a message of condolence, stated, “In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny.”
