A UK court has sentenced Nigerian man Adedapo Adegbola to life in prison for the planned murder of his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Irons, after she ended their relationship.
A UK court has sentenced Nigerian national Adedapo Adegbola to life imprisonment for murdering his former girlfriend, 23-year-old Stephanie Irons, at her home in Nottinghamshire. Nottingham Crown Court ordered Adegbola to serve a minimum of 25 years after finding he planned the killing following the end of their brief relationship.
Judge Nirmal Shant KC said, “Your controlling behavior led her to end the relationship. What is plain is that you were not prepared to accept that.” Irons’s mother told the court, “I have no words to say how broken I am,” describing her daughter as “compassionate and caring.”
Adedapo purchased knives days before the attack and fled the scene after the murder, disposing of evidence. He later handed himself in and pleaded guilty. Detective Inspector Stuart Barson praised the family’s bravery, saying: “We have lost our beautiful daughter and shining light. No-one will ever take away the pain that’s been caused by this senseless act.”
