The U.S. government has revoked the visas of 80,000 foreign nationals, including Nigerians, citing offenses ranging from assault and theft to terrorism and overstaying visa conditions.
According to PEOPLES GAZETTE reporting, the U.S. government has announced the revocation of visas belonging to 80,000 foreign nationals, including thousands of Nigerians, as part of an immigration and security policy under President Donald Trump’s administration.
The U.S. Department of State disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, describing the move as a fulfillment of President Trump’s long-standing pledge to strengthen border security and uphold public safety.
The statement, titled “Promises Made, Promises Kept,” emphasized that the administration remains committed to protecting American citizens. “President Donald J. Trump will always put the safety and interests of the American people first,” the statement read.
According to the department, the affected individuals had their visas revoked for various offenses, including assault, theft, and driving under the influence (DUI).
Specifically, 16,000 cases involved DUI violations, 12,000 for assault, and 8,000 for theft. Other categories included terrorism-related activities, support for extremist organizations, threats to public safety, and visa overstays.
U.S. authorities further noted that the revocations are part of an ongoing effort to review and tighten immigration control measures, ensuring that foreign nationals residing in or visiting the United States adhere strictly to the nation’s laws.
